Mario Barbara is a pharmacist whose career spans nearly four decades in both community and hospital settings within Malta’s National Healthcare Infrastructure.
Graduating as a pharmacist in 1986, Mario began his vocation with a foundational role in the procurement of pharmaceuticals for Government Health. His passion for community healthcare led him to manage a privately owned pharmacy and later own and operate his own personal pharmacy, dedicating over 18 years to frontline patient care.
In 2005, Mario transitioned into hospital pharmacy, where he worked in aseptic and non-aseptic compounding and pharmaceutical quality assurance at St. Luke’s Hospital Pharmacy and later on at Mater Dei Hospital Pharmacy. Through progressive roles, ultimately leading to Professional Practice Pharmacist, he became well versed in quality systems, medical gases, compliance with the Falsified Medicines Directive, and continuous staff development.
Mario also represented Malta as an ambassador to the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists in Brussels with reference to the EAHP Statement Implementation Project.
Mario’s academic achievements include a Bachelor of Pharmacy and aMasters in Applied Chemistry from the University of Malta, as well as numerous certifications in quality assurance, aseptic services, governance, and risk management from institutions across Malta and the UK.
Mario is a pharmacist who is driven by a dedication to public service which is matched only by his commitment to excellence.
